Kristen, a renowned home decor expert, provides insights on how to enhance the appearance of your home through decor and styling, giving it a luxurious touch without straining your budget. Let's delve into Kristen's expert advice and discover ten practical ways to transform your space into a sophisticated haven.

1. Incorporate Decorative Pedestals: Trendy and Timeless Touches

Kristen emphasizes the use of decorative pedestals, a popular trend in the world of design that we have been seeing everywhere. Inspired by galleries and museums, these pedestals add an artistic flair to any space. Kristen suggests placing them in corners, at the end of hallways, or as statement pieces behind or beside a sofa. With a wide range of styles and heights available, you can create stunning groupings to elevate your decor. The versatility of decorative pedestals allows you to infuse your space with a touch of elegance and create visual interest. Whether you want to showcase a cherished artwork or add a decorative element to an empty corner, these pedestals offer endless possibilities for enhancing your home's aesthetic appeal.

2. Upgrade Outdoor Fireplaces with Ceramic Fire Pit Balls

Here's one you might not have heard of: To give your existing outdoor fire pit or fireplace an expensive look, Kristen suggests using ceramic fire pit balls. These balls, available in various colors, instantly enhance the appearance of your fire pit. By replacing glass rocks or lava rocks with ceramic balls, you can create a brand new aesthetic. The ceramic balls add an artistic scale and size to your fireplace, transforming it into a captivating focal point.

3. Select Plants that Complement Your Decor Style

Next, Kristen highlights the importance of choosing plants that align with your home decor style. We all know that plants can seriously upgrade a room, but Kristen points out that we should be careful about mixing plants. She advises considering the distinctive characteristics of each plant and ensuring they harmonize with your overall aesthetics. For example, olive trees work well with eucalyptus stems due to their similar muted gray-blue color palette. By thoughtfully selecting plant varieties, you can create a cohesive and luxurious ambiance. Mixing plants that clash in terms of style or color can disrupt the overall harmony of your space. Therefore, it's essential to be mindful of the plant combinations you choose to maintain a cohesive and visually pleasing atmosphere.

4. The Impact of Clean Windows

Here's a good one: A well-organized and clean home always exudes luxury. Kristen emphasizes the transformative effect of clean windows. Dirty windows can make your entire home feel unkempt. By investing in a quality window cleaner, such as a vacuum-powered squeegee, you can achieve spotless windows. The transparency and cleanliness of your windows instantly elevate the look and feel of your living space.

5. Elevate Lighting Fixtures with Tapered Lamp Shades

Kristen suggests swapping out barrel lamp shades with tapered lamp shades to upgrade your table lamps, floor lamps, or chandeliers. The dynamic shape and angle of tapered lamp shades create a more dramatic and luxurious appearance. These lamp shades are widely available at thrift stores and home decor outlets, offering an affordable way to enhance your space.

6. Create Luxurious Depth with Textures

High-end and luxurious designs often incorporate various textures. Kristen recommends experimenting with throw pillows, rugs, and decorative items to add depth and visual interest. Mixing smooth and rough surfaces, natural materials like wood and concrete, and patterned textiles can elevate the overall aesthetic. By introducing textures, you can create a more opulent and inviting atmosphere.

7. Pay Attention to Your Entryway

Kristen advises focusing on your entryway to create a lasting impression. Incorporating an appropriate-sized entryway table, regardless of your space's size, provides a grounding focal point. The table should be both practical and stylish, serving as a drop-off point for keys and small items. Adding a mirror above can contribute to the wow factor, instantly elevating your home's entrance.

8. Stylish Organization with Decorative Boxes

To maintain a clutter-free surface, Kristen suggests utilizing decorative boxes for stylish organization. These boxes serve as dual-purpose pieces, providing storage while adding elegance to any room. Hide away small items such as chargers, paperwork, remote controls, and toys within decorative boxes. You can find them at home goods stores, online retailers, or even thrift stores.

9. Embrace Your Design Style

Honing in on your design style is crucial to achieve a cohesive and sophisticated look. Kristen advises embracing your preferred style, considering color schemes, textures, and furniture pieces. Whether your style leans toward modern, traditional, or eclectic, fully commit to it throughout your entire home. By immersing yourself in a specific design style, you create a harmonious and well-curated space.

Make your house look expensive? Give me a break. Are you decorating for what makes you comfortable and happy, or trying to impress other people? In my humble opinion, people who come to your house to see how 'expensive' things are, are not the kind of people I want to entertain. I want friends who will sit down in their jeans with a mug of coffee and share their latest finds at the local thrift store. They are the ones who will be there when you need them, not the local busybody who checks the bottom of your new vase to see how 'expensive' it is.
