Glamorous Design: How to Embrace Luxury & Drama in Your Home

Today, we're setting our sights on the dazzling and glamorous look. If you crave a space that exudes luxury, sophistication, and a touch of Hollywood regency, then glamorous design might be your perfect match.

In her video Feminine & Bold Home Design | Tips for Decorating in the Glam Design Style, Rebecca Robeson details exactly what glam design is, how you can incorporate it into your home, and why you shouldn't be intimidated by over-the-top style:

Hallmarks of Glamorous Style

Imagine a room bathed in soft, natural light, with white walls creating a clean and airy foundation. Glamorous design takes this base and elevates it with layers of rich texture, sparkling details, and dramatic elements. Here are some key features to look for:

1. Architectural details

Think crown molding, base molding, and even applied molding on the ceiling. Feature walls can be adorned with stone, slate, or metallic wallpaper, adding a touch of grandeur.

2. Gleaming surfaces

Let your space shimmer with marble countertops, brushed brass fixtures, mirrored surfaces, and lacquered metallic accents. Quartz countertops add another layer of sophisticated shine.

3. Plush fabrics

Indulge in the feeling of luxury with fabrics like velvet, mohair, suede, and leather. Feathers, silk tafida, cashmere, fur, and sheepskin all add to the sumptuous feel.

4. Layered bedding

The glamorous bedroom is a haven of comfort and style. Think crisp white sheets, plush pillows, and a luxuriously layered comforter, perhaps in a soft, shimmering satin.

5. Upholstered furniture

Opt for furniture pieces upholstered in luxurious fabrics, often featuring metal or brass legs for an extra touch of glamour. Tufted sofas and headboards add a classic and sophisticated touch.

6. Lighting that makes a statement

Crystal light fixtures, cascading chandeliers, sconces, or pendant lights adorned with crystals are all glamorous choices. Don't be afraid to go bold with a statement piece that becomes a focal point of the room.

7. Dramatic window treatments

Floor-to-ceiling drapes in rich fabrics like velvet or silk add drama and elegance.

8. Luxurious accessories

Plush rugs, animal skin rugs, and throws made of fur create a sense of indulgence. Crystal decanters, coffee table books, and cozy throws complete the picture.

9. Fireplace with a touch of glam

Glamorize your fireplace with a solid slab or mantle and a dazzling diamond glass firebox.

Glamorous Style Beyond the Bedroom

The glamorous design aesthetic isn't restricted to the bedroom. This luxurious style can be incorporated into any room of your house. A glamorous living room might feature a black grand piano or a white one, loose tables with rich colors and textures, and statement lighting that resembles a piece of art itself.

Glamorous with a Modern Twist

The glamorous style can be intimidating for some because of its association with being too over-the-top, but glam can be sophisticated and gorgeous when done in bits and pieces. Rebecca herself mixes industrial modern with glam in her own style.

Finding Your Glam Balance

Whether you want to go all-out Hollywood regency or prefer a more subtle approach with touches of glam here and there, this luxurious design style offers a way to create a space that feels sophisticated, dramatic, and undeniably glamorous.

Never heard of silk tafida! Do you mean taffeta?I also feel that shiny surfaces can sometimes cheapen the look of someone’s home!
