When I posted an Instagram story asking if anyone was up for a room makeover, I had no idea what to expect. But to my surprise and delight, my DMs were flooded with responses. Today, I am thrilled to share the story of my very first client, Cynthia, who lives in Media, PA.

Meeting Cynthia

Cynthia was the first to respond with an enthusiastic “yes, come help me!” We connected through Instagram, and she bravely invited me into her space. I asked Cynthia to send me pictures of her room and her inspiration for the makeover. I was inspired by her vision and determined to creatively combine her existing décor with her dream ambiance.

The Vision and Preparation

My goal was not to dismantle Cynthia's existing style but to enhance it, giving her space an upscale feel. Cynthia had a cool vibe going on, and I wanted to add a touch of sophistication to her living room. I gathered the necessary items and set out to work my magic.

The Makeover Begins

We arrived at Cynthia’s place and immediately got to work. The first challenge was mounting the curtains, but we quickly improvised with an exercise stepper as a makeshift step stool. Cynthia's willingness to accommodate our creative solutions was truly appreciated.

I had purchased a velvet slipcover from Amazon for Cynthia’s couch, which surprisingly exceeded my expectations. Its plushness and perfect fit were a pleasant surprise. Along with the slipcover, I also got her some dreamy, gauzy curtains from Amazon that were both affordable and perfect for her space.

Lighting

This is the new light. It’s a black sing light I repurposed from the old bedroom in my own home.

Wall Decor For Texture

I've decided to use this really cool wall decor that is the exact size that I need. I think it's going to add a really nice element of texture to her space.

Transforming the Space

One of the highlights of the makeover was a vintage mission table I found at a thrift store. Originally a dark cherry wood, I envisioned it as a modern, low-profile coffee table. With the help of my husband, we cut the legs and whitewashed the surface, transforming it into a piece that could easily be from Restoration Hardware.

Table & Chairs

I updated these table and chairs. The tabletop got a whitewash clever too, and I spray-painted the legs metallic gold:

Extra Focal Wall

I wasn’t planning on doing anything with this wall, but I noticed when I stood in the doorway, I was looking directly at this space and it needed something. So I created a little vignette here:

The Big Reveal

With everything in place, I waited for Cynthia’s return. Her reaction was priceless. Seeing her excitement and gratitude made all the hard work worthwhile. The dreamy curtains, textured wall panels, and revamped furniture pieces all came together to create a space she loved.

Final Touches

To complete the transformation, I styled a few areas with some of Cynthia’s own pieces, adding small touches like artsy candlesticks and a chic basket. The result was a harmonious blend of her original style with a refreshed, upscale vibe.

A New Beginning

As I wrapped up my first room makeover, I felt an overwhelming sense of fulfillment. Cynthia's joy and the transformation of her space inspired me to continue this journey. I hope this story inspires you to look at your own spaces with a fresh perspective and consider repurposing items to refresh your home.
