Home Makeover Chronicles: Transforming My Daughter's Primary Bedroom

These kids of mine definitely hold me to the fire and they do not let up. Hi friends of the twins, welcome back to the channel.

This is Rhonda, and some of you may remember when I shared with you my daughter's apartment. She is the one that made us empty nesters, so I went down and helped her to kind of start to get the apartment together.

Well, today we're going to be at my other daughter's house. We're actually going to be here in her primary bedroom because with my kids, you can't do something for one and then not do something for the other.

Although they are grown, grown, grown, grown, this daughter in particular here will be 30 years old this year.

But they all keep up with one another and what this one has had mom come over and do and what Mom is going to be doing at the other one's house. They all are in a chat and they keep a hotline going of what mom is doing from house to house.

For today's primary bedroom makeover, I do have a little bit of help. Lindsy Living is partnering with me to help get this job done. They sent her over a beautiful velvet queen-size bed.

My son-in-law got busy putting the bed together, and everything he needed to put it together was provided by Lindsay Living, including the tools.

She has a light gray velvet bed, which is really soft and much prettier in person, but this bed also comes in dark gray.

The total assembly time was probably about an hour. Yeah, I would say it took him about an hour to get the bed put together, but no worries there because while I was there, my daughter and I went ahead and handled some other little things around the house.

I mentioned earlier that everything you need to assemble the bed comes with it. It is packaged neatly, and we were really happy about that because there is nothing worse than starting to assemble something and then finding out that you don't have a part or piece that you really need. The Allen wrenches and everything you need comes with your bed.

The bed assembly was coming along quite nicely, so my daughter and I moved on to the next project for this primary bedroom makeover. She had some dressers that she's had for a while now. I remember her having them at her first apartment.

Well, I happened to be in Home Depot and I always encourage you to stop by the Oops paint section. I found this beautiful shade of gray paint for $2. It was in a pint-size, which was just enough for the projects we had planned for this bedroom makeover. So, we set about doing that.

As you can see, she has certainly gotten her use out of these furniture pieces, and I believe I gave them to her when she first started out on her own. Knowing me, I probably picked them up at a thrift store or a yard sale.

With a little bit of scuffing and a whole lot of sanding, we were hoping they would come out just as good as new.

We ended up putting three coats on the furniture, and while it was drying, we went back upstairs and were happy to see the progress on the bed.

Another feature she really loves is that her bed has LED lights on it as well as USB and USC ports.

There are ports on each side of the bed. The lights come with a remote, and you can choose from seven different colors.

Another feature is that right below the USB ports, there is a pocket where you can slide your remote, phone, a book, or magazine. It's more storage!

Speaking of storage, did I mention that it comes with four drawers, two on each side? They are a really nice size, and as we all know, you can never have enough storage. The convenience is what I like about these—they are on rollers so you can roll them in and out. I love the fact that they are so convenient. You can keep the bed linens there, so on bed change day, you don't have to walk far at all. There are just so many things that can be conveniently stored right here.

Now, we’ve got the bed assembled, the nightstands painted, and she had already painted the lamps that are going to go on either side of the bed. It is finally time to put the room back together. We started with these beautiful curtain panels from Amazon.

We went with these 96-inch curtains in a beautiful shade of navy. They love it!

Their primary bedroom refresh is really bright and clean, and the color of the upholstery of the bed matches perfectly with the color of the oops paint from Home Depot on the nightstands, which matches beautifully with the existing wall color. Everything came out really nice and comfortable.

I also wanted to tell you about the lamps on both nightstands. I found these years ago at a thrift store, and they’ve been painted and repainted over the years. Prior to being painted white for the makeover, they were black.

We did purchase two new lampshades because we wanted some that were a bit bigger since these are larger lamps. Have you noticed that large-sized lamps are trending again? They are back in style! I found these probably six to eight years ago, but they look good as new after a coat of white paint.

She really loves the headboard and all its functions, but she has voiced a concern about how low it sits. It does sit lower to the ground compared to her previous headboard, which partially covered the window. I told her to give it a night or two and see how she feels.

In the meantime, I'm going house to house, making the lives that my kids live lives that they love because they’re my babies and life is short. Thank you so much for watching! We’ll see you in the next one.
