5 Essential Tips for Creating Classy Fall Decorations

Today I'm going to teach you how to create classy fall decorations so you can avoid cheap fall decor. First, I want to say that bringing fall decor into your home should bring you joy. Follow your gut if it makes you happy; that's what matters most.

1. Choose natural elements

The lesson I want to teach is how to imply the fall season and not tell it. What do I mean by that? Let's talk about it. So one way you can do this is by choosing natural fall elements over fall-colored decor. Those bright oranges and bright reds. Fall is full of so many different colors. You have your beautiful burgundies, your browns, and your earth tones. This is a very easy way to decorate classy.

Burgundy fall arrangement

For example, in this arrangement, you'll see that I have some beautiful burgundy colors, a little bit of green, but not any bright colors.

Is this still a fall arrangement? Yes, it is because we are implying fall; we're not telling fall. Let me show you another one.

2. Implement texture

So in this example, I still have a lot of subtle colors, but I paired it with this really cool vase, the two-toned and the texture.

When you don't have a lot of colors, and you implement texture, that brings your whole design together. Fall is a really easy time to make arrangements because you don't have to have a bunch of different stems that are different and have to figure out how you're going to arrange it. This is three stems in one vase. Super easy.

Natural fall elements

In this last example of choosing natural fall elements over bright fall decor, I have put some beautiful fake mums, but they're an off-cream white in this beautiful basket, and baskets represent fall.

I mean, they remind us of the old days in the harvest. Baskets make a perfect texture to go with any floral.

3. Choose warm colors for textiles

Another way to imply the fall season is by choosing natural warm colors for your textiles. So avoiding bright fall colors will subtly promote fall. An example is if you think of a big bright fall pillow that says Happy Fall, y'all versus maybe this pillow.

Sweater pillow in a soft nutmeg color

That is a sweater pillow in a beautiful soft tone, a nutmeg color that will give you that classy fall look.

Because it's implying it, it's not screaming it.

4. Use different textures

Another way to introduce fall in a classy way is with your textures. You've got your wood, your basket, your knitted textiles. Let me show you an example. As one example first example, we can use a wooden bowl with wood beads. We can also create a basket candle holder and a fall candle. This brings in some warmth without screaming a lot of color.

Large dough bowl with a lower flat candle and seed gum pods

In another similar example, a larger dough bowl, a lower flat candle, and nestled around it are these little seed gum pods.

I usually sell these in our store, but what cracks me up is as a little girl, I collected them in the yard. You could also put pine cones in here, and then at Christmas time, you could put pine cones and a little bit of greenery.

Woven cake plate with off-white knitted pumpkins

In this last example of using textures, I chose this woven cake plate with a glass closure on top, and in it, I've just put three little off-white knitted pumpkins.

Those knitted pumpkins also bring in another element of coziness.

5. Don't overdo it

My last piece of advice is don't overdo it. Subtlety is key in creating a space that feels like fall. Do this by avoiding too many knick-knacks. Now, I love antique accessories, but you want to place them around the home sparingly because that's going to be the difference between classy and cluttered. So it's that easy.
