From Warmth to Whimsy: A Cozy Fall Home Tour

Hey, it's Holly! Welcome to Living It Country. In today's video, we have a fall home tour for you all, featuring Becca from Adventures in Decorating, who is sharing her fall home tour. Let's tour her beautiful home today.

I'm excited to welcome you into my home here in Northern Virginia for a little fall home tour.

Foyer

Welcome to our foyer! This year for fall, I've filled it with lots of traditional colors and a bit of whimsy to greet you as soon as you walk through the front door.

Starting over here, my goal was to make it feel as though you were sitting on a bench at the park, surrounded by fall trees and leaves, maybe reading a fall magazine or grabbing a few pumpkins and just enjoying a fall day.

While I didn't have a park bench, I did have a set from our bedroom. I brought that in and loaded it up with pillows—plain white ones to serve as a backdrop so you could really appreciate the colors of the fall pillows.

For the trees, I know a lot of people grab branches that have fallen in their yards or the woods, but I'm too afraid of the spiders and bugs that could be hiding in them. So, I used two trees from my Christmas decor.

They were white, but I spray-painted them a brownish-gray and wrapped brown floral wire with faux fall stems around them. I didn't cover all the branches, but I love their muted colors—kind of a rusty orange, not a bright orange.

I then hung this peg rag and found a cute hat at Target Dollar Spot, which almost perfectly matches the faux leaves. I wrapped this throw around to resemble a scarf, loving the tassel detail.

Down here, I added a basket with a couple of fall magazines, a matching throw, and some pumpkins.

To finish it off, I found these prints on Etsy, downloaded them, and had them printed at a local office supply store. I am a huge fan of finding artwork this way—budget-friendly and with so many options.

If you look up at the top, you'll notice those prints match these, but what I like to do is invert the order. Where I have two brown leaves and one beige here, I have two beige and one brown there. It makes it look like companion prints and satisfies my need for symmetry.

Sideboard

Moving on to the sideboard, the first thing I did was layer a windowpane mirror in the back. I love doing that as it reflects everything on the piece of furniture.

This sideboard is normally in our dining room, but I slid it out here because I love playing musical furniture. It's a budget-friendly way to refresh your spaces if they feel a bit stale.

I have my bookend lamps and knew I wanted just one big arrangement in the middle with muted tones, a little green, and some little wreaths that tie in with the arrangement. These adorable jack-o-lanterns add a touch of whimsy.

Down below, I thought it'd be fun to have a pile of pumpkins. I found some at HomeGoods recently and had white pumpkins on hand. I just need to add a strand of fairy lights, and it will be done.

Back Hallway

In the back hallway off the foyer, we recently brought a secretary desk up from the basement. For fall, I hung a tobacco basket above it, matching faux branches from the larger arrangement in the middle, amber bottles, little houses, and pumpkins. Another trick I like is printing the same image but mirroring one, so it looks like companion pieces.

Living Room

From the foyer, let's head into the living room. I have splashed lots of fall colors around—vibrant and muted, all mixed together.

I switched the furniture a bit, replacing a loveseat with two more chairs for a cozy four-chair configuration. This room invites you to curl up with a book or enjoy some quiet time.

Recently, I painted the chandelier, picture lamps, and curtain rod using gold leaf Rub 'n Buff to phase out the black, softening the room.

Decorating Touches

For fall decorating, I used branches from Hobby Lobby with pretty shades of green and orange.

If you have a Dollar General nearby, check out their fall decor—I found pumpkin and wheat decorations there. Goodwill is also great for finding budget-friendly books in seasonal colors. I added throws from Target to the chairs, cutting them in half to make them work.

The cabinet from Kirkland’s is kept basic, with a little bar area, scattered leaves, pumpkins, and glass boxes.

Family Room

From the living room, we'll walk back through the foyer, bypass the kitchen, and head into the family room. This is where I spend a lot of time, especially on weekends.

Before I began decorating it for fall, I rearranged the space slightly by moving our loveseat from the sunroom and removing one of the accent chairs to keep the entry open and uncluttered.

I layered a new rug on top of our seagrass rug, which has pretty neutral colors and complements the new pillow covers I recently purchased. I placed a pumpkin pillow in the center and followed my symmetry rule by using matching pillows on the loveseat and accent chair.

On the bookcases, I added baskets from Ikea with handles, featuring a lovely woven texture and varying colors. I filled them with faux leaves and berries, and incorporated pumpkins, Goodwill books, lanterns, and squirrels with acorns on the mantel.

I found a beautiful fall scene print on Etsy years ago that I keep bringing back, and paired it with another peg rack, throws, and a hanging basket filled with faux fall stems.

Over on the mantle, I updated the backdrop to green this year, which contrasts nicely with the gold and white wall sconces and canvas backdrop.

The wreath against the white wall adds a striking pop. I created a garland using various elements and added wood and beaded garlands while concealing fairy lights for a warm ambiance at night.

For the coffee table, I kept it simple with candles, a little pumpkin, and a bowl of pumpkins and leaves.

Lastly, I wanted to highlight the new shades we added recently. Although we had woven shades years ago, these new ones add a wonderful texture and cozy feel, perfect for this time of year in the family room.

Sunroom and Kitchen

The sunroom, off the kitchen, is a cozy breakfast area filled with natural light.

I added pops of traditional fall colors to contrast the white elements.

I filled the cabinets with soup tureens, bowls, woven textures, faux fall stems, and a fall wreath in the window for balance.

In the kitchen, I kept the decor simple with a large dough bowl filled with faux eucalyptus stems, fall leaves, pumpkins, and berry lights.

Where the kitchen table usually is, I brought in chairs and anchored them against a chest, disguising the loveseat.

This leads your eye to our fall family tree, a staple in our home for 15 years, decorated with fall picks, ornaments, ribbon, and family pictures for a sentimental touch.

Well, that about wraps up my fall home tour. I truly appreciate you taking the time to visit and would love your company over on my channel for more decorating, especially as we approach the holiday season.
