A Charming Front Porch Makeover: A Step-by-Step Guide

Welcome, friends of the twins! Today, I’m excited to share my front porch makeover with you.

This project has been a labor of love, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the refreshed space in the mornings and evenings. It took about 3 to 4 days to complete, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

A Fresh Start with an Old Favorite

I began with a cherished frame from Hobby Lobby that I bought 7-8 years ago. If you saw last year's porch makeover, you'll recognize it. I loved how it looked last year, so I decided to go with a similar style again.

This time, I selected a new black-and-white pattern from Hobby Lobby, complementing the black-and-white theme inside my home and outdoor living spaces. This simple DIY project involved just a yard of fabric, which cost me a little over $4 after a 40% discount.

Preparing the Porch

Before diving into decorating, I needed to clean the porch. I hadn’t been out there since last winter, so the first step was a thorough cleaning.

With my daughter’s help, we removed everything from the porch and power-washed it. The hot Georgia weather (high 80s to low 90s) dried the porch quickly, but I decided to wait until the next day to start decorating.

Setting the Stage

I found a perfect black-and-white rug on Amazon, a 5x8 for about $32, which matched the theme I wanted.

The four-piece furniture set from Costway fit the rectangular porch perfectly. Although I experimented with different arrangements, I ultimately kept the same layout as last year since it worked best.

Cozy and Inviting Decor

When decorating, my priority is always comfort, followed by aesthetics. I aim for a warm, inviting space. Here are some key elements I used:

1. Candle Holders

Long candle holders from Kirkland’s, over 10 years old, added charm and elegance.

2. Mosquito Repellent

Anticipating many evenings on the porch, I prepared an organic mosquito repellent based on a TikTok recipe, using what I had on hand.

3. Large Planters

I found large planters at Aldi for $9.99 each, perfect for adding greenery to the porch.

4. New Wreath

A wreath from a local festival added a splash of color while maintaining the black-and-white theme.

Creative Use of Shelves

Last year, I found two shelves at Goodwill.

One was used in the yard for plants, and the other in the garage.

This year, I repurposed them as plant stands for the porch.

After power washing them, the weathered look added character and charm, fitting perfectly with the porch’s aesthetic.

Decorative Touches

Decorating the shelf with items I already had, like a thrift store rooster and some creeping Jenny, brought the space together.

I also added fresh-cut flowers from Publix, taking advantage of their 3-for-$12 deal. Fresh flowers are an easy way to elevate any space and usher in the season.

The Final Reveal

After days of hard work and creative effort, the front porch is now a cozy, inviting retreat.

From cleaning to decorating, every step was worth it. Whether you're looking to refresh your porch or just enjoy some new decor ideas, I hope you find inspiration in this makeover.
