Dining Room Makeover, Organization & Fall Tablescape Ideas

Welcome back to the final video in this year’s fall series! Today, I’ll be sharing all the details on my dining room makeover, as well as a closer look at my very first furniture restoration project—a piece I found at Goodwill for only $19!

I’ll also show you how my sweet friend Denise, from Bemyguestwithdenise helped me get everything organized. Plus, I’m going to be asking for your help in completing a China set I’ve been working on. And finally, I’ll be sharing this year’s fall tablescape. So, let’s get started!

Before we jump into the makeover, I figured it would only be fitting to show you the only footage I have of the old dining room. I swear, you guys, it felt like a scene straight out of The Sopranos.

Painting

First things first, I had to get rid of the dark paint. I loved it when I first put it on, but after about six months, it started to feel like the walls were closing in. So, you guys voted on Instagram, and we decided on Sherwin-Williams' Agreeable Gray.

I really fell in love with this color because it’s cooler, but still complements the warm custom paint in the rest of the house. I think it was the perfect fit!

Furniture

Next, we updated our furniture, which was about 15 years old. I decided on this set from American Signature’s Urban Farmhouse Collection. The collection really complements the aesthetic of our home, and I’m super excited that I can finally seat my entire family during the holidays.

Even the base of this table is absolutely gorgeous, you guys! I decided to keep our old rug, which I got years ago from Pottery Barn. I’m not sure if it’s still available, but I still love it, so there was no need to get rid of it.

Many of you saw a recent video where I took on my first furniture restoration project. I found this piece at Goodwill for $19 and decided to bring it home and give it a try. It’s not perfect, but it’s perfect for us and the dining room.

I also got rid of the stencil on the accent wall, which was starting to look dated, and I found these beautiful mirrors on Facebook Marketplace. I also found these gorgeous candlestick buffet lamps and lampshades. I fell in love with them because they’re really tall, and since we have tall ceilings, they scaled really well in the room.

And there was just something about these beautiful wall sconces that I couldn’t walk away from, so I brought them home too.

Table Linen Organization

Next, it was time to organize my table linens. As you can see, they were really wrinkled because they were all kind of stuffed in one place. I went through everything and decided what to keep and what to get rid of.

I also pulled down my mom’s absolutely beautiful china that she passed down to me before she passed. She made me promise to use it, but I just never had a great place to store it—until now.

I picked up some china storage containers. I pulled everything down and packed it away safely.

Now, if any of you know where to look for antique china, would you mind leaving me a comment down below? My mom’s china set is incomplete, and now that I have the storage space and seating, I’d love to complete it. I’ve Googled and searched on Amazon, but I can’t find it anywhere. I know there has to be a place I can look.

Denise from Bemyguestwithdenise gave me a great idea to hang my placemats and put the chargers in the same place so I could see everything.

My mom’s China set went in this section—tucked away nice and safe, but still within arm’s reach. I found some clear containers that were the perfect fit for the drawers to store my cloth napkins.

In the drawer below that, I stored table runners, napkin rings, and other odds and ends.

This Year’s Tablescape

This year’s tablescape features a lot of repeats from last year’s, but with the new furniture and paint, it really looks like an entirely new setup.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw the story of me finding these gorgeous maple leaf placemats.

They appear to be really plain at first, but when you get a closer look under the light—oh my goodness! Look at all the glitter and sparkle! If you want to add a little glam to your table, these are absolutely perfect.

Everything you see in this place setting pretty much came from Pier 1. The neutral placemat, the neutral charger, and then I added this pretty goldtone charger.

The glasses are also from Pier 1—they have new ones this year in gold and red, and they are beautiful for Christmas. The dinner plate is from Pier 1 as well, but the salad plate didn’t come from there—I believe I got them from Pottery Barn a couple of years ago.

I also relocated the clock from the front door entry to the wall. The “thankful” sign came from Kirkland’s last year.

I really hope you guys enjoyed the fall series this year! I’m going to start working on Christmas for you all soon. Thank you so much for sharing this time of year with me—I sincerely appreciate all of you, and I’ll be back soon. Until then, love and peace!

I, too, had darker walls, a plum color which was beautiful with my accessories, etc., but after several years, I felt I wanted to calm it down and I went with Sherwin Williams HGTV "Mega Greige" paint. And what a difference! I love that depending on time of day and how much light comes in, the color will look gray or a beige and I've the accessories, or things already in my house that look great with it; i.e. SS appliances - black, some gray/ivory in my granite counter tops, some gray in my tile floors and there's some gray in my fireplace bricks, also gray grout. I change my toss pillows and blanket throws for the seasons and that lets in coordinating colors and textures to go with the gray walls, ivory sofas and I find (even read) that gray pairs well with "wooden" pieces so I've incorporated that, too. My daughter is an artist and I've her paintings in the room which are birch trees with green & yellow leaves - lots of gray, ivory, green and gold-leaf leaves. I changed out my dated wrought iron tables (hard to clean) for plain black metal with glass tops, simple and very easy to clean. It's a whole different scene for me, but I really like it - have gone over to the "modern" side somewhat. Your wooden dining room set looks beautiful with your now-gray walls. Very calm and relaxing an atmosphere. This all sounds expensive, but I worked with what I already had, sold the old tables and got new ones and bought a few brass accessories. I think the paint cost more than anything else.
