To celebrate International Women's Day, and beyond, we’re taking a look at some women-owned and women-founded home decor brands, and the creative and entrepreneurial stories behind them.

From functional rugs to non-toxic cookware, accessible African designs to supporting independent artists, these brands offer more than just aesthetics. They represent the journeys and visions of talented women who are reshaping the home decor landscape.

Here are just a few of our favorites that we plan to support this March 8th:

1. Ruggable

Ruggable founder Jeneva Bell was so sick of pet stains ruining her rugs that she decided to create stylish rugs that are also machine washable! We relate, Jeneva, we relate.

So, how does it work? Ruggable rugs have two layers: a lightweight decorative cover for the top and a non-slip adhesive rug pad on the bottom, so you can peel off the design and throw it in your machine.

Here are some of the best-sellers:

The low-pile rug covers are also stain-resistant and water-resistant. There are more than 10 different sizes and shapes to choose from, countless designs, plus bath mats and doormats too.

This year, Ruggable teamed up with Pantone for the Color of the Year to design rugs using the shade for 2024, Peach Fuzz.

We also love their Bridgerton rugs, which are inspired by the modern regency look.

2. Parachute

Ariel Kaye founded bedding and bath accessories brand, Parachute in 2014. The focus is on quality materials, a simple aesthetic, and comfort.

The best-sellers in bedding are linen and percale:

Linen

The softest of soft linen is manufactured in Portugal from 100% European flax, and is pre-washed for a light, airy, and lived-in feel. This fabric works well for warm or cool sleepers.

Percale

The percale is 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton, feeling like a crispy white shirt. Ideal for hot sleepers, the fabric is lightweight and casual.

3. Juniper

Interior Designer Jenny Komenda is the brains behind Juniper, which sells art prints and was founded on the belief that art can be both well-curated and affordable.

Every piece of artwork available is either a licensed vintage piece selected by Komenda herself or licensed from living artists who also earn a commission from the sales.

You can choose paper, canvas, or digital download, and there are options for frames too.

Juniper works directly with more than 40 independent artists—painters, photographers, designers, and illustrators—who come from all over the world.

4. 54Kibo

Next up is 54Kibo, a home decor brand focused on contemporary African design, founded by Nana Quagraine.

Inspired by her birth country of Ghana, Quagraine aims to make the unique, vibrant, and authentic designs of Africa and the African diaspora globally accessible. Shipping is free within the contiguous US!

You can even shop by country if there’s a particular aesthetic you’re looking for. The woven Ethiopian rugs and cotton, Maasai-inspired Tanzanian beadwork, and contemporary Moroccan light fixtures are real highlights.

5. Our Place

In 2019, Shiza Shahid started out with just one 10-in-1 pan, with an objective to produce non-toxic and colorful products, and a mission to offer cookware that aims to bring people together through culinary traditions.

Always Pan® 2.0

Now, Our Place has expanded to other cookware, appliances, tableware, and more.

Our Place has also teamed up with Selena Gomez (known for her TV show Selena + Chef as well as her singing and acting) to produce a bright and colorful homeware collection.

We also love the Traditionware collection, which features traditional cookware used for Asian cuisine, such as woks, chopsticks, small plates for soy sauce and other condiments, as well as handwoven steamer baskets!
